This is a really strange thing.
The computer (vista) has 2 logins that are used, let's say "A" and
"B" (so you can log into the computer as "A" or "B")
User A (admin account) has multiple e-mail accounts, 1 IMAP and 3
http.
User B (non-admin account) has multiple e-mail accounts but NO IMAP or
HTTP.
Up to a little while ago (when user B noticed being prompted for a
password), the above was what was in the folder list (User A had a
"pst" folder item for the main, IMAP, HTTP --- user B only had the
main and an archive open).
Now something weird has happened, that the only difference between
then and now is the recent round of Microsoft security updates.
User B now has folders (and PST files) for the IMAP and HTTP accounts
for User A listed in their folder in outlook. If you try and close
them you get a message saying it's attached to an account and you have
to remove the account from the accounts tab (the tab where you add/
remove new accounts). If you go there, there's no account for those
files. I tried to delete the data files in the other tab only to get
the same message. So I deleted the PST files from the user profile
manually, and ran the PST checking thing just in case (the file size
was like 236bytes).
Opened outlook -- and it recreated the PST files and prompted for the
IMAP and HTTP passwords for the accounts (that still don't exist). So
I checked the registry for the accounts, and other than a reference to
the files I deleted prior, none existed. Checked the all user
registry keys and found nothing. Searched the computer in all
"outlook" or "office" folders to see if something existed, and didn't
see anything.
Logged in as "A" and removed the accounts from the profile. Logged in
as User B and the "accounts" were still there. Logged back in as "A"
and added the accounts again. Closed outlook, ran it as an admin, and
removed the accounts again. Logged in as "B" and the "accounts" were
still there and unable to be removed. Logged back in as "A" and re-
added the accounts (as, well, they're needed for user "A" -- I was
hoping that for some really dumb reason Outlook decided that all IMAP/
HTTP accounts should be shared by all users, but as removing them from
the one account [even granting admin rights] didn't work, it wasn't
the case).
What's strange is, other than User A can't even view User B's files
(without altering permissions of course), and User B can't see User
A's, I can't find anyplace or reason why the accounts are being
duplicated by name only into all Outlook users -- but ONLY for the
IMAP/HTTP ones!
Any idea on how to get them actually removed from User B's Outlook
folder listing? If Outlook actually stored words instead of the GUID
like numbers for everything even in XML-based files, I could possible
of found it easier. But there's got to be some setting in an All
Users/Public area for it to be happening. I can't say when it
happened as the other user doesn't notice things, and only knew they
were there as she had to cancel out of all the password boxes - but
that happened only a few days ago.
