I am experiencing odd behavior with outlook 2003.
I have made a custom form that is a replacement for emails (IPM.NOTE).
My custom form has been published to my Organizational Forms Library as
"IPM.Note.NoteTest". I have run Microsoft's FormsAdmin (FormSwap.exe)
application to make the registry changes necesary to tell outlook to
use "IPM.Note.NoteTest" instead of "IPM.Note".
If I goto my inbox with outlook and click the "New" button, my custom
form is opened (IPM.Note.NoteTest).
For testing, I sent myself several emails using my custom email form
(IPM.Note.NoteTest) opened via the "new" button while my inbox was
selected in outlook. I also sent my account several emails from
outside sources. The end result is that my inbox now has several items
in it. Some of the items have "IPM.Note.NoteTest" for a MessageClass
and some have "IPM.Note" for a MessageClass.
Now for the unexpected behavior:
1) If I press the "new" button in outlook, my custom form
(IPM.Note.NoteTest) is opened. This behavior is CORRECT.
2) If I open an item that has "IPM.Note.NoteTest" for a MessageClass,
the item is opened with my custom form (IPM.Note.NoteTest). This
behavior is CORRECT.
3) If I open an item that has "IPM.Note" for a MessageClass, the item
is opened with Outlook's default "IPM.Note" form. This behavior is
INCORRECT.
4) If I randomly open items (some being "IPM.Note.NoteTest" and some
being "IPM.Note") (item after item in quick succession), eventually
items that have "IPM.Note" for MessageClass will start opening with my
custom form "IPM.Note.NoteTest". Once a single "IPM.Note" item opens
with my custom form, ALL "IPM.Note" items will start opening with my
custom form for a period of time. After some period of time (which
seems random), "IPM.Note" items will again start opening with Outlook's
default IPM.Note form, until I again start randomly opening various
items in quick succession, at which time, eventually IPM.Note items
will again start opening up with my custom form.
-After running microsoft's formswap.exe to specify that outlook should
open IPM.Note items with the IPM.Note.NoteTest form, why do existing
IPM.Note items open with outlook's default IPM.Note form? When I use
formswap.exe on other item types (IPM.Contact to
IPM.Contact.ContactTest) all items (both IPM.Contact and
IPM.Contact.ContactTest) ALWAYS open with the IPM.Contact.ContactTest
form.
-Why do IPM.Note items eventually (and apparently randomly) begin
opening in my custom form (IPM.Note.NoteTest) if I quickly and in
succession open various items of type IPM.Note and IPM.Note.NoteTest?
-Once the IPM.Note items start opening with my custom form, why do they
suddenly and randomly stop opening with my form and revert to opening
with outlook's standard IPM.Note form?
Any ideas anyone has would be most appreciated.
Thank you
