Outlook using wrong Word template...?

Howdy,

I run OL2000 SP3 with Win2000 SP4...

This is a strange one (at least for me.)

Here's my situation:

I use Word as my email editor (primarily because of the
availability of Autotext entries). Many of the Autotext
entries are used both when I am running Outlook, but also
when I am using Word itself. When they are used with both of
the programs, they have the same text, but different
formatting.

The problem is that when I set up an Autotext entry while
running Outlook, its formatting also appears when I run Word
alone.

When I set up an Autotext entry when running Word alone, the
formatting appears when I launch Outlook and attempt to
create a new email message.

It would appear that both Word Standalone, and Word as Email
Editor are using the same template.

Of course I an not certain that I have this diagnosed
properly, but in any case, would welcome suggestions about
solving this problem.

Sincere thanks,

S

Yes, they both use the Normal.dot template.

Hi Sue,

I thank you for your comment, but am even more perplexed...

For years, I have had my HTML email set to use Courier by
default and my Word Docs to default to Ariel.

I had many Autotext entries and then entered in the proper
format, that is, when working in an email, the Autotext
entry appeared in Courier, and when working in Word itself,
they appeared in Ariel.

That no longer happens.

Whatever font I set the Autotext to be sticks, so I can have
Arial in both, or Courier in both.

What might be going on here?

Thanks again,

S

If you can try to lay out the steps to reproduce the problem -- in other words, exactly how you created your AutoText entries -- I can try it here. We'll need to know the version of Office.

Hi Sue,

I will do that, but am not at the offending machine right
now...

I do have a question about it though:

If, indeed, Word, and Outlook (Using Word as Editor) both
use NORMAL.DOT, how was it ever possible for me to have
distinct default fonts?

Thanks for your comments on this,

Outlook doesn't (or shouldn't -- I actually have one machine out of 3 where it's acting weird) use the fonts in Normal.dot, but should use the fonts the user has chosen in Outlook.

Hi Sue,

Here is the step-by-step:

I am in Outlook, clicked New, and started to write the text
of a message in HTML.

I typed "This is a gd (F3) announcement.

"gd" is an AutoText code for a particular seminar name in
bold face.

That appeared immediately, but in Black Arial while the rest
of the email was in Dark Blue Courier.

I then selected the Arial text, changed it to Courier,
touched ALT-F3 and over-wrote the "gd" AutoText entry.

I then tried the "new" "gd" AutoText entry while in Outlook,
and it worked properly entering the text as Courier.

I then launched Word and started a new Doc.

I typed "This is gd (F3) etc. and it entered the seminar
name in Dark Blue Arial though the rest of the text is in
Black Arial.

(I will add here that what I have just described is a change
from the recent past because what had been happening was
that when I went to Word it would enter the AutoText in
precisely the format I had chosen in Outlook.)

In word, I modified the text to Black Arial Bold (which is
what I want for the AutoText entry when I am in Word, and
over-wrote the F3 for "gd".

Then, I went back into OL, typed some words, then gd (F3)
and the seminar title appeared in Black Bold Arial.

Back in Word, it behaved as described just above.

I realize as I am typing here that I could work around this
hassle by having something like "egd" for my "email version
of the gd AutoText" but I would certainly prefer the way it
used to work...

Thanks for any further insight,
