Outlook will not prompt for profile to be used

I have multiple profiles and although it used to, Outlook no longer prompts
for profile. I must select a profile and restart. If I choose to "Prompt
for Profile" it opens in the last one and will never ask. I have tried
setting up multiple ways and even tried to add a shortcut with a modified
target but it does the same. Suggestions?

The most common reason this would happen is something is keeping the session
going, so you never actually get prompted for the profile because you're
never actually logged out of it.

Try this...

Reboot the system.
Go to start-run and run outlook /safe
You should get prompted for a profile.
Log in to whichever and then go to File - Exit
Start outlook again, either normally or the same way as before. Are you
prompted this time?

outlook's not closing completely so it reuses the old profile. Look in task
manager - you can close it from there but it's better to figure out why it's
not closing properly.

You don't get prompted for a profile when you reboot?

What OS are you on?
What version of Outlook are you using?
How did you tell Outlook to prompt you for a profile?

no, it "acts" normal. It shutsdown with no errors and closes in the task
manager as well.

Is Outlook.exe listed there?

Then that tells me that something on the system is starting up before
Outlook and selecting a profile for you.

Do you have any third party sync software? Software that connects to a
blackberry device? Backup Software? A/V software that has hooks into
Outlook?

What is in the system tray before you start Outlook?

I have no sync software installed. I have always used Outlook independently.
I have Nero (which can backup the full system) but have not used it.

When I restart the computer there is nothing in the task manager operating
(I assume that is what you mean by "System Tray"?? If not please explain.

The System Tray is on the task bar on the opposite end of the Start button,
generally on the bottom right.

Try this:

When you have OUTLOOK.EXE under processes (in task manager). Right click and
choose "end process tree". After this, try restarting outlook and see if it
prompts for profiles.

Certainly seems like there is some other process keeping a session to
outlook in some way.
