Outlook with pop3 account and exchange account confusion

Hello

We have an exchange 2000 server and outlook 2002 (xp) on the desktops
with a pop3 mail account added on.

The exchange server is not used to send messages with but for calendar
sharing. In outlook the exchange mailserver is where the mail is
delivered to from the pop3 server.

When a user creates a new email, they are given the option to select
which account to send the email with, pop3 or exchange. I have already
selected the pop3 account to be the default mail service.

I would like to limit this so that it always selects pop3, and doesnt
give the user the option to choose exchange. (preferebly no accounts
drop down box in the send email window).

Is this possible to do without losing the shared calendars?

Via what? A new message should be created using the default account. They
can *choose* the account they want via the dropdown menu, but by default,
the new message will be from the default account.

No offense, but this is a pretty clumsy setup, and will likely always cause
you headaches of many varieties. If all you want is shared calendaring,
there are probably simpler options out there ....but since you bought
Exchange, why not use it the way it's meant to be used? What's the reason
you're using the configuration you have now?
