Outlook with Windows XP SP2

Hutch

It seems now that we have installed SP2 for XP that our outlook (2000) is not
refreshing. If your in outlook, you will not see your new mail until you
click off the inbox. Same goes for sending emails. It appears to say in the
outbox until you change folders in outlook.

Anyone ever have this problem?
Any ideas on fixing this issue?

Thanks,
Hutch

Disable your Windows Firewall in XP. It's enabled by default in SP2.

yeah...that would work...but thats not really a fix action.

I figured since both are Microsoft products that Microsoft would have a fix
for this besides disabling the firewall.

Any other ideas. I Added a program exception in the firewall. But I wasn't
sure if this was what Microsoft would suggest.
Thanks,
Hutch

Sure it is, unless there's some reason you need/want a a locally configured
software firewall - I generally don't (I protect at the perimeter)

You can add exceptions as you did - allow all on LAN, perhaps.

It's your only option if you don't want to disable the firewall.

Okay, thanks for the advice.
We actually are using the ICF to help stop popups. So we don't really want
to turn it off.

I'll keep plugging away at opening up programs and ports on the firewall
until I get the correct combo.
I had to do the same with our Symantec programs.

Thanks, again....

The SP2 firewall & IE popup blocker work independently, fyi...if you're
talking about 'messenger spam' & have more than one computer, you need to
protect your network at the perimeter, even if you decide to use the windows
firewall. Or use another firewall that may be easier to configure/more
customizable.

HTH.
