Outlook with Word as Email editor

Our CEO has Outlook 2003 and he uses it with Word 2003 as the email editor. When he creates a new email, he can start typing, and there is a delay before the letters appear on the screen. If I open Word, and start typing, everything works fine. It started happening after he tried to send 74MB worth of pictures in one email. Since tht time, I have removed that file, removed the sent and deleted item related to that email, ran a "detect and repair office," and also uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook 2003. Still you can type a line of text, and it takes a little bit for it to appear on the screen. Does anyone have any ideas?

Office 2003, Windows XP Pro, network or VPN same thing.

I have my doubts that the large file attachment is the root cause of
this problem (although you should appeal to the CEO's obvious intellect
to ensure he/she understands why that was a costly action ... why in the
21st century so many senior executives and managers can still can bet
away with "bragging" about how little they understand computers is a
mystery to me).

1. Does the problem manifest itself when using Word on its own?
2. Does the problem manifest itself when using the Outloook editor to
compose an email?
3. Have you checked for existance of nefarious software like computer
virus and/or spy-bot programs that may be interfering with Word/Outlook?
(my current hunch).
4. What other programs running at same time.
5. Does the machine have sufficient memory? I'd recommend minimum 512
mb for someone using Word/Outlook and and doing other "executive"-type
functions with their computer.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

1. Does the problem manifest itself when using Word on its own?
* No *

2. Does the problem manifest itself when using the Outloook editor to
compose an email?
* Yes, didn't at first *

3. Have you checked for existance of nefarious software like computer
virus and/or spy-bot programs that may be interfering with Word/Outlook?
(my current hunch).
* No virii, and spy-bot says now spyware, while adaware will not complete its scan *

4. What other programs running at same time.
* Just Oulook, Norton (same things that have always ran) *

5. Does the machine have sufficient memory? I'd recommend minimum 512
mb for someone using Word/Outlook and and doing other "executive"-type
functions with their computer.
* 768 MB, problem just started. Everything was working fine. *

Well ... something has changed, and something is "corrupted". Dunno.
Word in Outlook works just fine for me and thousands/millions of others.
I realize that does you no good.

Check event log for hints?

Something is interfering.

Could be anything, I guess. I was shocked to find out that a cause of a
problem with a few machines in my small office/company where we use XP
on desktops and Linux/Samba as file server ... problem was that for one
XP machine the so-called 'roaming profiles' would not save properly.
Problem turns out (based on Googling) that roaming profiles don't work
with Samba for that particular Nvidia GEForce video card. Just how a
video card can affect network interaction on another machine ... dunno.
