Outlook won't open

Justin

My computer (Dell XPS 1330, running vista) had some sort of error the other
night (blue scary screen), but after I restarted it, it was working fine.
That is until I tried to open Outlook 2007. When I try to open Outlook, it
slows my computer down to a crawl for like 5 minutes as it tries to open the
program, but eventually it won't open and the error message says:

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The
set of folders cannot be opened. The file
C:\Users\justin\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst cannot be
accessed.

Any help?!?

I suggest you look in Event Viewer and post the details of "some sort of error."

Does it open in Safe mode? start->run->outlook.exe /safe. If yes, then
uncheck all add-ins and then restart outlook normally. If it opens, then
re-enable your add-ins one by one, stopping and starting Outlook each time
until you find the culprit.

Once found, visit the website of the programmer who made the program to look
for an update.

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The
set of folders cannot be opened. The file
C:\Users\justin\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst cannot be
accessed.

Also, have you checked to see if the outlook.pst file is actually still
there in the location specified? The pst file is generally an email archive -
if you have inadvertantly deleted that file Outlook will still search for it
until you tell it not to try linking to the file. As that folder is likely
to be 'hidden' - if you can get into Outlook at all try 'File' -> 'Open' ->
'Personal Folders File' or 'Data File' and type all but the outlook.pst part
of the path into the Open File dialogue. This should take you to the folder
where you will either see outlook.pst or nothing!
Again, if you can get into Outlook you can also try 'closing' any reference
to Outlook.pst (it might show up as 'Personal Folders') in your Folder List
in the left hand pane. Once the reference to it has gone Outlook should stop
erroring.
All that said - your blue screen sounds like it might warrant a Windows
Repair using your original Windows installation disk.
