Outlook won't remember password

Outlook will erase the password after closing the program
even when the save password is checked. I upgraded to
Outlook XP thinking this would solve the problem after
going to the support center and reading an article saying
to download the service pack 2, but still no luck. I have
downloaded every service pack.
Can someone help me with this problem? I have read every
article Microsoft has on this issue.
