Outlook XP and IMAP speed & Stability issues.

I'm trying to move my email from Outlook Express to Outlook XP - mainly so I
can keep my contacts in sync with my mobile phone and also send/recieve
email to contacts from my phone...

Now I'm a typical email whore. I have email going back several years and all
sorted into folders. Below is a copy from my mail directory on the server,
and a disk usage dump.

Yes, as you can see, that's 353Mb of email... I used to use Outlook Express
to always have a sync of what was on the server, on my laptop - great for
portability...

I'm trying to get Outlook XP to do the same, but the amount of time Outlook
takes to sync is just phenominal! I've had it going for about an hour, and
after multiple crashes, it's still not finished... Also, I've found from
previous use that when it has sync'ed - then simple functions as "Mark All
As Read" (which gets a real workout on my email) takes up to a minute *per
folder* to complete. During this time Outlook XP hangs, and no user input
can be taken. Then you move onto the next folder, which takes about a
minute to display, mark all as read takes about another minute - and about
3 folders in, I crack it, close Outlook XP and launch either Mozilla mail
or Outlook Express.

Then in about 5 minutes, I've gone through all my email (every folder) as
well as replied to various emails etc..

Bottom line is that Outlook XP wastes my time - but alas I am drawn to use
it. Has anyone overcome these issues? What about in the new office beta?
Please help :)

You can lead a fool to wisdom but you can't make him think.
We have enough youth. What we need is a fountain of smart.
I am root. If you see me laughing, you better have a backup.

I have not had this problem at all. What other programs are currently
running on your computer?

Do you have any SP's for Outlook installed. What SP for Windows are you on?
