Outlook XP and Windows Live MAIL

S

Steve Rainbird

I have Outlook XP installed on my vista machine.

When I start outlook I get a message saying

Cannot start Microsoft outlook. Outlook requires Microsoft outlook Express
4.01 or greater.

I have done 2 things today that may have caused this.

I did a windows update and I have installed Windows Live mail.

Any ideas please?

TIA

Steve

did it work correctly previously or did you get this error when you first
tried to use it?

Outlook 2002 is not supported on vista and is buggy... but this is not one
of the usual problems.

Try reregistering OLE32.DLL.

I did

Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll

from a cmd prompt I assume this was right?

It still will not start though.

Then its time to upgrade. You can get Outlook 2007 for about $109 off
amazon.com. I know it might be a lot to you, but it sounds like a better
inconvenience. If not get copy of Outlook 2003 and install SP3 which
improves Vista compatibility.

Found the solution.

Start regedit and go to the following key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}]

Changed IsInstalled to 0 to 1

I agree with the need to upgrade to 2007 though I will get it from Ebay not
Amazon.

I had the same error after a WU ... it was the straw that broke the camel's
back with Vista and OL XP. Instead of 2007, I bought 2003 online for much
le$$ .... much better!

I would think it's HIGHLY unlikely that you would find Office 2007 on
EBay....and I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole if I did...

Yes you can, legitimate too. But, you still have to be cautious, do the
research.

I am in the UK if that makes any difference. If you look at Ebay there are
lots of versions of Office available.

I have bought all my copies of Office (2000 and XP) from EBAY so far and
never had a duff or illegal one yet.

Both of which have run out of support, so that's the only place you WILL get
them. 2007 on the other hand is brand new! Why would anyone be selling on
EBay? In fact I bought my copy from someone who ADVERTISES on Ebay, but it
was supplied direct from their business, and I didn't bid for it...
