Outlook XP-can't edit reply message

When I am in Outlook XP and I click on reply to a message, I am unable to
select any of the text from the original message. It doesn't even highlight,
let alone delete.

Any suggestions?

Do you have the Word editor enabled? (Tools | Options | Mail Format...)
If so, try turning it off and see if it works.
