Outlook XP not saving password... I tried everything.

Hi guys,

I am running Win XP SP2 and Office XP SP3. I don't know what I did, but
my outlook refuses to save my account passwords.

I followed every article in the knowledge base regarding what to do
with "Protected Storage System Provider".

Up to know, I did everyting (including deleting the The user subkey
folder), but the strange thing is that when I reboot the system, that
subkey is never recreated.

After rebooting, I run Outlook, type again my pass (And check the
Remember pass box) and still nothing.

It seems that I am missing something, because I guess that the user
subkey folder in the Protected Storage System Provider key should be
created again... and that doesn't happen.

Any ideas what I am missing?

PS: All permissions in the registry are OK according to the many
articles from MS.

Well, I found the solution my self... when I was just getting ready to
reinstall XP.

Problem: I don't know how, but the Protected Storage service was
removed from my service list. This service runs LSASS.EXE and it's in
charge of storing passwords in a secure way.

Solution: Exporte the key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ProtectedStorage]
from a friends computer running XP, and as Administrator import it to
the computer without the service. Reboot... and there... password are
back!

Thanks all.

Agustin.
