Outlook xp on windoes xp-Please close all Microsoft Office applications before..

B

The message "Please close all Microsoft Office
applications before shutting down the system "
comes up EVERY time I try to reboot my new windows Xp
system
running outlook. I have to exit outlook first to reboot,
even though it is just sitting idle.

I searched the knowledge base, and this error appears on
nearly every combination of outlook and windows version,
but I have not seen it before on my other computers.

This leads me to beleive there is some (possibly known)
set of circumstances that cause this bad behavior to
occur. I have spoken to other win xp/office xp users who
never see this error, but I see it 100% of the time.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for post. When I turn off word as editor,
the symptom does indeed go away. Looking at the Microsoft
problem knowledge base, seeing this problem spans 8 years
and 5 product versions, it just boggles my mind they dont
have the cohones to fix such a trivial bug. Particularly
one that hangs reboot.

My privious win 2k/office 2k set up would shut down
normally, so there must be some other mystery factor that
makes the problem show up on some systems and not others,
but
a decent programmer could wrap this problem up in a few
hours. Grr! Can't find a day in 8 years to fix a reboot
problem?

You can set a flag to close all programs on shutdown but the downside is
you don't get the changes you made to files saved. My take is they have
to draw the line on hand holding some where.
