Outlook XP Unable to Open Default email folders

Outlook will not open. I get the message "Unable to open your default e-mail
folders. Could not open Item. Try Again"

Then it asks "Would you like to run your default file system folder instead?"

When I hit OK it goes to a list of files on the drive and nothing else.

Anyone have any suggestions how to fix this?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the product with the same problem.
