Outlook XP VERY slow to start

Things i've tried:

uninstall - delete all associated folders - user files
reinstall
detect/ repair
outlook safe mode - same slowness
rename outcmd to ".old"
disable all add-ins
disable instant messenger
reinstall instant messenger to new version (02/10/2009)
delete user profile
went into admin user - same issue
..pst not issue - does on creating .pst with new setup as well
created nosplash in registry to value "1"
ran defrag - make sure info moved on platter (while on lunch) - then
reinstalled - same issue
sysmon shows almost no activity then pops up
doesn't even show on toolbar - but is listed as a process that runs (VMusage
does not change) - then pops up

think thats about it - HELP

also - worked fine for a long time. then my screen "hung" for no apparent
reason. when outlook restarted I had the issue

running any AV in the background that scans inbox ?

yes - however - i disabled real time scan and also stopped the outlook plugin
from within the AV and also in outlook. only thing left to do would be to
uninstall - i'll probably try that.
