Outlook/Yahoo Send/Receive Error

I am trying to configure Outlook to Send/Receive my Yahoo Mail. I pay the
extra money for Yahoo Plus and have access to Pop forwarding and so on. I
went to both the Yahoo and Outlook help pages on this topic, and followed
their directions very carefully, including changing the port to 587.

However, whenever I try to Send/Receive, I get the following error message:


"Task 'Yahoo and Campus Cruiser - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) :
'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP)
server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'?

What does this error message mean and how do I fix it?

Also, I have successfully configured Outlook to Send/Receive two AOL
accounts... So it seems to be just Yahoo that has the problem.

What does this error message mean and how do I fix it?

It means Outlook experienced a timeout while trying to communicate with the
POP server, just like it said. Are you scanning mail with an antivirus
program integrated into Outlook? If so, uninstall that program and
reinstall without the mail scanning feature and try again. If you don't
have an AV program scanning mail, open a command prompt window and see if
you can connect to that server port, likle this:

telnet pop.yahoo.com 587

(where "pop.yahoo.com" is, of course, the server that Yahoo! has instructed
you to use). If you see the number 220 followed by a banner of some kind,
then enter "quit", close the command prompt window, enable diagnostic
logging in Outlook, try the send/receive again, and post the contents of the
log.

Thank you so much! I switched off the e-mail antivurs scan, and it seems to
be working fine. My only question now is: How safe is it to have the e-mail
antivirus scan turned off?

It's quite safe as long as you follow some simple rules.
1) Never open an attachment you're not expecting.
2) Continue to run the antivirus program's on-access (or real-time) scanner.
3) If you must open an application you receive as an attachment, save it to
disk first before opening it.
