I seem to have lost the pane under the message body where
attachements get inserted. Does anyone know what I can do
to get it back.

IF your e-mail is "text" formatted then "Insert", "File" will cause it
to appear to hold the attachment. "Drag and drop" will cause it to
appear. If you are using RTF or HTML then the attachment will go in the
body of the e-mail and NO box will appear.
