Hi, ladyfromnorth,

Yes, you can use Outlook 2002 instead of Outlook 2003. If you're upgrading,
just do a custom installation and make your choice known to the installation
wizard.

Dear anonymous,

Thanks for your kind and helpful words. You have made it clear that I
needed to provide a more thorough response to the original poster.

My original answer was correct: it is possible to use Outlook 2002 with the
rest of the Office 2003 suite. I woudn't necessarily recommend it, but it
is possible, and it will run fine. I have it running on one computer now
for testing purposes, with Word and Excel 2003. Naturally, there is likely
to be some integration with the entire suite that will be lost when picking
and choosing multiple
versions of Office components to run together, and it's for that reason
(among others, I'd guess) Microsoft doesn't generally recommend running
multiple versions of Office applications on the same computer.

When installing Office 2003, you can choose not to install Outlook 2003 and
retain Outlook 2002 by performing a custom installation. However, you
cannot have multiple versions of Outlook running on the same computer. This
article may provide a bit more clarity:

Not knowing intimate details of each individuals' configuration, it's very
difficult to make a blanket recommendation. Sorry if it didn't work for you
in your particular scenario.

Best regards,
