every time i open a new message and open my address book
and try and scroll through the contacts list it freezes
up and closes outlook, now i'm sure that it must be
corrupted, however i don't want to lose all the names in
my contact list. is there a way to save all the names in
my contact list before i remove it and then add it again?

Removing and readding the Outlook Address Book Service won't even touch your
Contacts. That's not where they are stored.
