My understanding is that the trial version is for the entire Office 2007
professional suite. I don't know if I can download the entire suite and then
just install Outlook. Obviously, if I install the entire suite then it will
not answer the question of how Outlook 2007 handles spell check without Word
2007, since if I install the entire suite Word 2007 will in fact be installed.
I'm also concerned in that installation of the Microsoft Suite causes
substantial changes to the registry, and I'm not certain how "clean" the
uninstall and reversion back to Outlook 2003 will be. Frankly, the reason I'm
looking to make the change is because there are one or two things Outlook
2003 is not doing in the manner is should, which I suspect is in part because
of registry changes make by other programs that have com add ins that did not
uninstall correctly. For example, Windows Desktop Search will not index my
Outlook .pst file. That problem is, according to threads I've seen, not
unique to me, and I've found no good universal answer as to why that happens
(other than things that don't apply to me), other than some references that
the problem goes away when you load Outlook 2007.
And that is not the only quirk with things not working exactly the way they
should.
I realize, BTW, that it is possible that if I install Outlook 2007, allow it
to in effect clean up any orphaned registry problems, then uninstall Outlook
2007 and do a clean reinstall of Outlook 2003, the quirks might go away. But
bottom line is that I can spend a couple of hours trying to clean up these
quirks in addition to the hours I've already spent. or I can hopefully drop
$100 bucks and clean up the problems with that new install. I'll trade the
cash if it saves me a bunch of time. But I don't want to spend a bunch of
time just to save the cash.
So the question still remains as to whether "check spelling on send" works
with Outlook 2007 w/o Word 2007.
