outlook2k3 in cached mode delivery reciepts

Is there a known issue w/outlook2k3 users when they set
up cached mode initially and synchronize folders that it
will immediately send read reciepts saying the email were
deleted w/out being read if delivery reciepts were
requested? I have had 2 incidents in the last week when
users reconfigured their outlook for cached mode. Is
there a fix for this?

I could not find anything in technet.

I don't expect that cached mode has something to do with this as cached mode
makes a local copy of the messages; it doesn't delete anything.

I know that it does not make sense, but it is the thing
that does trigger the receipts. There was one instance
today where the user configured cached mode for the first
time and he had one user that complained of getting over
400 read receipts right after the reconfiguration. Our
exchange site has over 12,000 users and having this
happen every time someone configures cached mode is going
to cause me a lot of headaches.
