I have noticed that sometimes, tasks can be "forgotten" in Outlook unless you
actually open up the tasks screen to check on them. I was thinking an
effective but unobtrusive method of keeping them at the front of the users'
mind would be to use a "ticker" like a stock ticker that showed the active
tasks scrolling across a small bar on the screen. This would be less
irritating than pop-ups, and be a better use of screen real estate than a
dedicated window.
The "Outlook Ticker" could also be user customized to display other content,
like new emails, appointment reminders, and maybe even tips of the day or RSS
feeds.
