At first I thought that this was just a glitch in one specific system,
but now I've seen virtually the same problem in a 2nd system, and it's a
fresh, clean build.
The problem is that in some instances Outlook (from Office 2000) doesn't
shut down when you close it.
In one case (windows XP), it appears to shut down, but if you restart
it, you can't send/receive E-Mail. Bringing up task manager will show
that outlook.exe is still running, even after you supposedly shut it down.
In the other case (Win98SE), the little message box ("please wait while
outlook is shutting down", or words to that effect) appears and simply
never goes away.
In both cases, you can "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" to bring up task manager,
manually kill Outlook.exe ("end task") and then everything is fine, even
outlook itself if you restart it (although it may still fail to shut
down the next time it's closed).
Is there any kind of known problem with Outlook 2000 shutting down?
In both cases, both Outlook and the OS itself are fully updated.
