Outook 2000: Opens, then flickering hourglass

Have a user that exceeded 2GB threshold on PST file. Repaired using
Oversized PST file utility. Recovered messages and moved into 2 new PST
files. Have messages being delivered to first new PST file which also
contains recovered messages from old Inbox. Second PST file contains
recovered folders and messages. Opened up Outlook with new PST files for the
first time and received hundreds of reminders. Went to "Reminder Options"
and disabled the notifications.

Now, every time I open up Outlook, it opens fine, downloads new messages,
then I get an hourglass that flickers rapidly between half-hourglass and
pointer, and the hard drive indicator is constantly lit while hard drive
sounds as though it is writing or reading data. If I click on any menu item
or folder (whenever the mouse stops flickering for a few seconds) it takes 3
-5 minutes for whatever I clicked on to respond. Please help.

Is Outlook 2000 installed in IMO mode or CW mode? I'd try starting with a
new mail profile, but how to do that depends on the mode of Outlook.

Thanks for the response! It is configured in IMO Mode. I'll try building a
new profile from scratch and see what happens...I'll report the results here.

Okay...this is strange, but just as I was preparing to go to my user to
create a new profile, he informed me that he opened up Outlook and was still
experiencing the same problem, then got distracted by something else and left
Outlook open for about 4 hours. At some point during that time, the problem
somehow went away. The only thing I can think of is that since this user has
about 10,500 E-Mails in his PST file, and these were recently placed there as
part of the recovery process, that Outlook might have been doing some sort of
integrity check of all the messages to verify nothing is corrupt, taking its
time doing so, and rendering Outlook unusable until it finished its
process(es). Thanks for your assistance!
