Over Allocated Resource problem

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can shed some light for me an an annoying issue
which has been troubling me for days now. I am getting resources
highlighted in red, emphasising an over allocation. But on looking
into the allocation of task, these resources have only for example 4
hours work in one day, yet it is stating that this is an
overallocation.

I have checked the calendar assigned to the resource and it is correct,

For example I have .4 days work assigned to me this coming monday, my
calendar is set to 9.30 - 6, yet it is showing me as overallocated for
this day.

Grateful for any assistance.

Kindest Regards
Steve

Steve:

Overallocations can occur within a day or even because two task assignments
overlap for a minute. In other words, if you have assignments from two
different projects comprising the four hours of work you're assigned that
day, chances are they're scheduled to occur at the same time. The way to see
what's behind this type of "overallocation" is to add the time to your date
display.

Think of the overallocation indicators in Project as "advisory." Don't drive
yourself crazy trying to fix all of these. Look at your resource loadings
over an entire week. I don't worry about scheduling a resource for 42 hours
of work rather than exactly 40. You must decide what your tolerances are in
this regard. I believe that 5% plus or minus is well within tolerable range
for most project applications. These tend to level themselves during
execution. Remember that the crystal ball we call Microsoft Project is
basing all this feedback on "estimates" and try to keep a reasonable
perspective on resource leveling. Personally, I like to schedule a little
into the red zone. Through the years I've learned that if you don't ask more
from your resources, chances are you won't get it.

Hi Gary,

Many Thanks for your assistance, I have added the time to the date
view, and know realise there are time considerations as well as date
which is great to know. However, the times allocated do not overlap,
and I also have a strange issue which I have just noticed, whereby a
resource has 1.2 days work allocated, and the resource is not red at
all??

Very Strange. I am going to try from scratch on a new test project to
investigate further, but grateful if you have any other suggestions.

many Thanks again
Stevo
