Overall Task: Spit task or what???

Hi All,

I'm trying to understand how use an overall Task...

On a Project I have to add an Owerall Task (generic Project Management
Task), that should cover all the project duration....

how can I do that??

I have to insert a task and manually change the duration?? (when I
will change something on the project plan....)

I have to insert a Recurring task???

I have to spit an overall task in as many tasks as I want???

basically the work performed to the overall task will be a few hours
per week...

I'd like to schedule the work not on a proportional way (DURATION:80
working days, WORK:8 hours -> 0.1 hour per day) but I'd like to
schedule the time as I want... for example 1 hours on monday... 0.5
hours on monday of the next week and so on....

how can I do this???

1 overall tast or 1 recurring task or 1 spitted task or many multiple
tasks????

thanks

Cheers

Vit,
I would create a fixed duration task (for the total duration of the
project), assign my PM to the task with the total effort that I want from
that PM. The Work will profile equallly across the duration at 0.1 per day.
If I was using the schedule to manage resource assignment / utilisation, I
would more accurately represent the work by inserting the planned hours using
something like the Task / Resource Usage view. this would then enable me to
tell project when I wanted the PM to 1hr or 0.5hr and on which specific days.

However, in my experience, this level of management does not prove
beneficial as the resource will not record Actual time into the schedule so
you do not benefit from the increased overhead in maintaining the plan.

Better to have one task and, if you want to show the production of certain
deliverable (Project Initiation Document, Quality Plan, Communications Plan,
Risk Plan, etc) have those as milestones which you can then mark as complete,
or re-schedule, as you obtain progress updates.

Hope this helps.
