Overallocated ressources

G

Gilles

I have created 2 tasks:
One lasts 6 hours on day 1
One lasts 2 days, day1 and day 2
For the first one I have assigned 2 ressources: A & B
I have also assigned B to the second task.
Rightly, project told me Ressource B was over allocated.
Going in "ressouce usage screen", I have kept A assigned 6 hours to the
first task and then assigned him 2 hours on second task during the first day,
and 8 hours on the second day. (his working calendar specifies 8 hours per
day working time for all days).
Project therefor show me in this ressource sheet that there is an 8 hour
assignement only for the first day for A, but still shows this day in red, as
if overallocated.
If I choose to display overallocation field (still in Ressource usage view),
project shows 0.
I I change view to Ressouce Graph, A is overallocated.
What did I do wrong and how to correct?
Even more confusing for me if that in the Ressource graph sheet, it shows an
overallocation of 25%, so 2 hours, which does not even correspond to the
original overallocation (6 hours + 8 hours=14 hours or 175%).

Hi Gilles,

Project determines if a resource is overallocated by totaling the
assignment units for each resource for each minute in a day. This value
is called the Peak Units.

Even though Resource A is only assigned a total of 8 hours on the first
day, chances are both tasks begin at the start of the working day. So
on Task 1, Resource A begins at 08:00 and stops working on that task 6
working hours later at 15:00. On Task 2 Resource A also starts working
at 08:00 and works for 2 hours until 10:00. Right now Resource A is
working two tasks simultaneously at 100% assignment unit. From 08:00 to
10:00 his/her total assignment units (Peak Units) are 200%, above
his/her maximum units.

Take a look at FAQ #28 "Resource Leveling Does not Remove
Overallocation" and "FAQ #34 "Overallocation Occurring in Less than One
Day" at:
