Overallocation

Can someone explain a situation I'm seeing in Project
that I don't understand??

I have a resource that I have working two tasks on the
same day. I allocate it 50% for each task and allocation
is fine.

However, if I change the Work column to reflect 4 hours
for each of the tasks, I see the resource as being
overallocated.

However, the "result" appears the same on the resource
sheet...8 hours of total work for the day.

Anyone explain why one is overallocated and the other
isn't??
