Hello again -
Perhaps you can get this user, and the one other user you mentioned with
Win. 98, upgraded to Windows XP Professional. This would likely require a new
PC in each case. Windows XP Professional, with service pack 2, is a lot more
stable and secure than Windows 98. If these two Win. 98 machines are
connected to the internet, they really do represent a weak point in the
security of the network.
I always enjoy tough challenges, so if you are willing to send me a copy of
your FE & BE databases, compacted and zipped, I'm certainly willing to see
what I can find. I have an older PC available with Win. 98 SE, and Access
2000, so I think this would be somewhat close to your configuration. I'll
also volunteer to perform an analysis of your database using my copy of Total
Access Analyzer, version 10.5. I do not need any of the data in the tables in
order to do this, so you could take a copy of the BE database, delete all
records from all tables, and compact it. The obscured version of my e-mail
address is:
QWaos168@XScom cast. Dnet (<--Remove all capitalized letters and spaces).
Note: Please do not post your real e-mail address to any newsgroup message.
The spammers will love you if you do.

The last new software installed on the machine was over 2 months ago, and the
database was fine every day until about a week or so ago. The reports that
she runs are run on a daily basis so it's also not a case of just not needing
that part of the system until recently either. When I get back on Thursday
I'll check out your other suggestion. If you think of any others please let
me know.

Hi Suzy,
Sometimes something as innocent as installing a new software application can
cause other applications to break. Was any new software recently installed on
this PC?
Also, you might want to run a chkdsk /f command, clear the temp. folder of
garbage, compact any e-mail folders, and perform a defragment operation on
the hard drive of this PC.

I did try with a fresh copy of the FE. I'll have to check the service pack
with I get back in the office next week, however it is only recently that the
problem has occurred with no changes to the FE, and no changes to the PC just
prior to the problem.

Hi Suzy,
Do you have the latest service packs for operating system, Access 2002 (SP3)
and the JET database engine installed on this user's PC (and on all user's
PC's for that matter)?

You might try refreshing the copy of the FE app. on this user's PC. Perhaps
it has suffered some form of subtle corruption. Grab a copy from another PC
and try it on this machine.

Access 2002
I have a split access database set up installed on several machines is the
front end, the back end is on the server.
The problem I'm having is with a windows 98 machine. It was working fine
until just recently. Now when the user goes into the database, she can go to
any of the forms back and forth without any issues. As soon as she runs a
report, the report works, but when it is finished anything else she clicks on
gives an overflow error message.
I only work on Thursday afternoons so if you reply I probably won't be able
to respond until next week, but please help me resolve this issue.
I have one other user using a 98 machine, and all the other users use XP
machines. None of them are having any issues. Nothing was changed on the
machine in question prior to this happening so I'm at a loss as to what it
could be.
