Overlapping Tasks - Linking Issues

Keith

I'm using Project 2003 and I'm looking for ideas on how to best handle
overlapping tasks. Here is the scenario:
Task 1 has a duration and work of 50 hrs
Task 2 work hrs are 10
Task 2 must start 5hrs after the start of Task 1
Task 2 must finish 5 hrs after the finish of Task 1

It appears I can only link Task 2 to Task 1 once, either the start or the
end. However, if I link Task 2 to the start of Task 1 and the duration of
Task 1 changes then the duration and end of Task 2 is no longer correct.
Conversely, if I link the end of Task 2 to the end of Task 1 and the duration
of Task 1 changes, then the start and duration of Task 2 are incorrect.

Anyone else faced this issue?

Hello Keith,

I'm not sure I understand the reasoning why, but I can only assume you
have a very specific need to do this kind of scheduling. :)

So, here's what I suggest:
Between tasks 1 and 2 add two milestone tasks: Task A and Task B
Link Task A to Task 1 in a SS relationship with 5hrs lag.
Link Task B to Task 1 in a FS relationship with 5 hrs lag.

Make Task 2 a hammock task using the start of Task A and the Finish of
Task B. For details on creating the hammock, see FAQ # 19 at:

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
