Override default POP port

B

Bruce

My ISP is AT&T worldnet and the default port for receiving mail is 995. I go
into the advanced receive settings, put a check mark in override default pop
port, enter 995 and click on OK. Receiving mail times out and when I look at the
settings, the check box for override default pop port is unchecked again.

Anyone have an idea as to why the check box won't stay checked?

Thanks,
Bruce

Port 995 is assigned to "pop3 protocol over TLS/SSL" which was formerly
known as "spop3". Check the box labeled "This POP service requires a
secure connection (SSL)" and see what happens.

That box is checked, as is the box marked "Always use secure password". Both of
those boxes remain checked, but the one labelled "Override default pop port"
won't stay checked.

I don't know what version of Entourage you're running but on mine,
(version 10.1.6 (040913)) checking that box automatically changes the
port from 110 to 995. I don't check the "Always use secure password" or
"Override default POP port" boxes.

I just remembered something. My wife has several e-mail addresses with
the same service but the only one that will work with secure POP3 is the
one which occurs first in her keychain. I don't know if it's Entourage
or the keychain service, but between the two of them the account is
ignored and only the entry for the account that appears first is
recognized.
