Overriding Default Front Zero Elimination

How do I override Excel's default elimination of a zero in front of four
other numbers?
Detail:
I have a column of zip codes all of which should start with a zero (A New
England state). As a 'General' format I can not put a zero in front of the 4
numbers currently entered. (pasted from another database which had the
zeros) If I format the column as 'Text,' I can one by one add zeros but not
with a find and replace, and there are 200 rows.

Select yours cell and go format>cell>number>custom and there type 00000
this will cause that from number 1234 you will get 01234, if you want 001234
then type there 000000.
Do you understand?

Select the cells, then go to Format>Cells>Custom & select Zip Code.
Unfortunately if they are 9 digit Zips, the Zip Code + 4 choice *won't* add
the leading zero.
