Overtype happens when????

I know that Overtype will become turned on:
1) when I select the "insert" key
2) when I double-click the "overtype" button on the status
line
My question is this: What other actions will engage
Overtype? It will periodically become engaged and I have
not touched the insert key and/or the overtype button.
Any explaination would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe you had a ghost key problem. If you press two (but usually
three) buttons at once you will generate ghost key codes for keys that
aren't depressed, based on the keyboard wiring matrix.

In my experience, it is extremely easy to hit the Insert key inadvertently
when reaching for either Backspace or Delete.
