When tracking changes, if overtype is off then entering new text
should not affect the old text. If overtype is on, then old text
should change to the deleted display format (color, strike through,
etc). What symptoms are you seeing?
I'm using Word 2002 with XP. In tracking changes as I edit, is it
possible to use to overtype? Doesn't work for me.
Thanks, Barry. When I go Tools, Options, Edit, overtype mode is grayed
out and cannot be engaged. So overtyping in my document is not
possible. So new insertions do not replace old text but simply insert
themselves into the old text without changing it.
I always use the INSERT key to toggle overtype mode. Are we talking
about the same thing?

Yes, I would use INSERT, but OVR remains grayed out on the taskbar, so
I can't overtype. It is never on.
