Overwrite a published project?

How do I overwrite a published project?

In other words, I have a project call XXX.published out on the server. I
then save it offline and make some changes to it. I then so a "Save As" and
put in the name as XXX. It proceeds to give me the following error:

"You cannot overwrite the default version (Published) of a project.
To save this project, type a new name or save the project as a version other
than the default."

Essentially, I want to overwrite the published project like you would a word
doc or another MS file store on a hard drive.

Thanks!

Scutzer:

Delete the one on the server and use Tools > Enterprise Options > Import
Project to Enterprise to replace it with the one you saved as a file. After
doing this, you must use Collaborate > Publish > Republish assignments and
select the checkbox to overwrite actual work in the resource timesheets to
fully initialize your new version.

One thing to note - if you delete the one on the server and you have links
established between it and another published schedule, you will lose those
links and have to re-establish them. - just lessons learned from one who's
been there. As Gary stated below, you should be using the Publish/re-publish
assignments option rather than deleting the old one and publishing a new one
each time you want to make changes.

What happens when a team member updates time on the Server during a time when
the Project has been taken offline and, subsequently, saved back online? Are
the team member time entries saved with it? What happens if I make
modifications offline while someone updates their time entries on the server?
Are they wiped out when I re-save the project online?

When you save a project in Offline mode, team members can still enter
actuals on tasks in the project and update them to you. When you bring the
project back to Online mode again, you can update the actuals into the
project plan from the updates page in PWA. The worst thing you can possible
do with an Offline project, however, is to delete tasks while in Offline
mode, and then have a team member send you an actuals update for that
particular task. Think about how illogical that would be for you to delete
a task that a team member is currently working on. Worse still, Project
Server will give you an error message because it would not be able to update
actuals to a task that a team member submitted an update against. Hope this
helps.
