Right now we are running a Windows 2003 Active Directory domain. For our mail
service we're running Exchange 5.5 on a Windows NT 4 box.
I'm in the process of building a new OWA front-end server for use with the
Exchange 5.5 server. I'm trying to build the server on a Windows 2000 Server
box. During the installation of OWA, I de-select all of the components on the
Exchange 5.5 intallation except for OWA. After I type in my exchange server
name as prompted, the setup window says that it is now configuring Outlook
Web Access. It is at this point where I get a setup error of this nature:
Processing file 'D:\SERVER\SETUP\I386\webcon.ins', at or near line 814
Failed to contact Windows NT Domain Controller
Microsoft Exchange Server Setup
ID no: c1034307
When I hit OK, i get another prompt that basically says, "Failed to contact
Windows NT Domain Controller".
I have read online that in order for Exchange 5.5 to work on Windows 2000
you will need Service pack 3 installed. They say that the install should work
just fine, but make sure that you install SP3 before testing it. I'm not even
at the point where I can install SP3 though because the install is failing.
The CD i'm using for the setup is the original release of Exchange so i'm
worried that it does not know about Active Directory and how to "contact" it.
It only knows NT 4.0 domain controllers and is trying to find one during the
install. Is there any way to slipstream SP4 onto my Exchange cd? Or do I need
to order an Exchange 5.5 cd with SP4 already included? Maybe that isn't even
the issue, i'm not sure.
Does anybody have any idea how to resolve this setup issue?
Thanks for the help.
