OWC11 on Windows 2003 Server

Has anyone had any success getting OWC11 installed on a 3rd party Windows
2003 server?

The admin on the server running the project i'm working on won't install it
because he says Win2003 isn't on the list of supported operating systems,
which is true, but does anyone know of any other info i might be able to
use change his mind?

First off Windows 2003 is NOT a third party. OWC11 and Windows 2003 are both made by the same party namely Microsoft. A third party in this case would be something like Walmart or Radio Shack.

So you want to change the person's mind. Try not to use "3rd Party." That would send me running for the hills. I don't know. His restriction is legitamate and his criteria seems to be if the Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components were supported in Windows 2003 he'd likely be satisfied. But here is the issue and why that will likely never happen.

It is because of something called .NET Framework. That is the direction Microsoft wants to go in all their new products and will likely become the only thing supported by Microsoft within a few years. So that might be the other reason for not putting time and money into the OWC. Because they will likely have a support period for a very short time.

Are OWC2003 better? I doubt it. Remember effort is going into the .NET Framework If it ain't .NET Framework it ain't gonna have anything substantially "better" then what you have now that isn't .NET Frameworlk. There are .NET Framework Microsoft Office Components. That would probably be the best avenue to go down if you feel .NET Framework is here to stay. If not that might be the reason to go to OWC 2003.

Hi,

You mentioned about .NET Framework Microsoft Office Components. Is Microsoft planning to release a .net version of OWC? If so when might be the likely estimated time to release?

Thanks.
