OWC11, PivotTables and the horizontal scrollbar - is it a bug?

Hi everyone,

I've had a search through the archives here regarding the display (or
not, would be more apt) of the horizontal scroll bar for PivotTables
but haven't found anything really conclusive.

AutoFit isn't appropriate - it just looks nasty when the whole window
has to be scrolled. I'd thought about embedding the Page containing
the PT into an IFRAME (or even regular FRAME), and while this works,
it's hardly elegant becuase of the frame scrollbars interaction with
the control vertical scroller (does that make sense?)

Can someone please clarify if the problem with the horizontal scrollbar
is a bug, or how they deal with the issue? Not sure if this is covered
in the book - I figure mine is somewhere over the pacific at the moment
:-(

You haven't really said what the problem is. Are you trying to turn off
scroll bars? That's not possible.

Hi Alvin,

Actually, it's quite the reverse. I've been trying to get a
horiziontal bar displayed without success. But it seems what I wanted
was to be able to scroll withing the Row Area, and not the data area
(which is working fine)

I think it's my understanding of the control that's at fault here, and
that what I'm seeing is 'as designed' behaviour. In my particular
case, the vast majority of the columns that I'm adding are Row area
fields, with only one or two data area fields. After more
experimenting it turns out that the horizontal bar does appear - if
there are more data area fields (and fewer fields in the row area), but
it seems there is no way to scroll "within" the row area.

I *suppose* that what I'm looking for would be a way to do a kind of
"Freeze Panes" ontop of the pivot. Something that I suspect is not
possible.

To illustrate, make a small fixed size table, and add enough row fields
so that the whole visible viewport is taken up by those row columns.
There's no way (that I can find) to enable the scrolling of this area
and so, in effect you can't see the data area.

So to recap, I think that this is designed, and that I've
mis-understood what I was seeing somewhat. I suspect though that
others have had the same mis-understanding, as there are a number of
references to horizontal scroll bars issues in the group archive.

Yes, freeze panes are only supported in the Excel spreadsheet. I'm not
talented enough to attempt a hack for the pivot tables either.
