Owners vs. Authors vs. ???

When we first implemented MS PRoject Server, we published a bunch of projects
that had been kept on a manager's machine. We copied each project to the
server and the Project Owner and Author became the person who did the
copying. We were able to figure out how to change the Owner and the Author,
but Project is still sending e-mails to the person who did the copying. Any
idea what is causing this and how to fix it?

More info: the system is also assigning Project Updates to the person who did
the copying, so if a Resource updates a task, the Owner or Author is not
being notified that a task has been updated. The person who di the copying is
getting the update notices.
