oxpsp1a.exe

I am trying to set this up on my Admin Installation
Point. I must be doing something wrong because it is not
updating the Office XP that I rolled out using Group
Policy. Is there anyone out there with a good walk
through or howto on this. I've found nothing I truly
understand thus far. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Adrian,

I'm not a Group Policy expert, but are you re-deploying Office to those
workstations after updating the installation point? Is that your sticking
point? After you update the administrative installation point, I believe
you need to then use Group Policy to publish a package with the command line
that needs to be run on each of the workstations.

Here's a sample command line from one of Microsoft's articles:

307843 - OFFXP: Overview of the Office XP Service Pack 1:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=307843

"To deploy the update to the client workstations, click Start, and then
click Run. Type the following command in the Open box

msiexec /i Admin Path\MSI File REINSTALL=Feature List REINSTALLMODE=vomus

where Admin Path is the path to your administrative installation point for
Office XP (for example, C:\OfficeXP),
where MSI File is the MSI database package for the Office XP product (for
example, ProPlus.msi), and
where Feature List is the list of feature names (case sensitive) that must
be reinstalled for the update. To install all features, you can use
REINSTALL=ALL. "

The package installs itself based on file extension. I
went from Office 2000 to XP using this message. The
command line stuff didn't work for me for some reason.
Perhaps I wasn't holding my tongue right? :) Is this a
special circumstance that I am in or should the same
command line thing actually work? I am thinking I just
did it wrong. I ran the setup from my local XP Pro
machine which has the ORK on it. Should I run the
command line from this same machine?

Got it...

Well, as I said, I'm not a Group Policy expert. But I thought that you
would:

1. Run the oxpsp1a.exe to apply to the adminstrative installation point
2. Tell Group Policy to run the msiexec /i Admin Path\MSI File
REINSTALL=Feature List REINSTALLMODE=vomus on each workstation.

Maybe it is the tongue thing <g>. Seiously, if you don't get any further
responses from folks here, you might check with the folks at the Windows
newsgroups to see if they have any insight into getting this going through
Group Policy.
