There were performance problems with
certain pass-through queries that were
fixed by Jet SP8 (I don't know if that
would apply to your case)

You will probably think I'm
a wise-acre (which I am but try
not to be on this ng..and don't
mean to be now), but it really
is time to upgrade Windows.

Maybe some MVP's have a suggestion.

SP8 is apparently not yet available for Windows 9.x or NT 4.0. There must be
additional issues that arise in those versions of Windows. When this service
pack becomes available, you should be able to locate it from within the
following MS KB article:

How To: Obtain the Latest Service Pack for the Microsoft Jet 4.0 Database Engine

Offhand, I don't know that rolling back to SP6 would help. See the following KB
article (if you haven't already):

ACC2000: Queries Are Slower After You Install Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 4
or Service Pack 5
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=302496

I haven't heard that SP7 caused similar problems. I'm not sure how you would
obtain SP6 at this time and I can't recall whether SP7 can be "uninstalled".

I have confirmed that SP8 is not yet available for Windows 9.x or NT 4.0, but is
forthcoming. Another place you can check from time to time is
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads and search for Product/Technology: "Jet
Database engine", Keywords: "service pack". When SP8 for Win 9.x/NT 4.0 is
available, it will show up there.
