[P2007] - Add line in timesheet

Hi,

I have some questions regarding add line to timesheet:
1) The add line function shows all the project tasks (complete or not
completed) that are available to the user for selection, the list will get
longer and longer with time as more tasks being assigned to him. Is there a
point whereby tasks being removed from the add line list? If not, it will get
to a point where it is impossible to use.

2) I try to clock some time to a completed task (add line) on my timesheet
and when I perform an import timesheet function, the preview does not show
information on the added task. How do we handle this type of discrepancies?

3) I think administrative tasks should also be available in the add line
list. We could clear Always Display setting to an administrative task but
there is no way to add in our timesheet.

Thanks and Best Regards

Hi Gary,

Thanks for your replies.

1) I check the close task feature and find it quite cumbersome to close all
the completed tasks (by checking on each and every tasks) for all projects.
Is it a common practise to do so? I think it would be ok to archive completed
project and removed it from published so at least the add line would only
contain tasks from active projects.

2) I found the problem to this. I use the incorrect timesheet classification
for the added task in timesheet so it could not be imported correctly.

3) I see from your book that it is a best practise to keep the number of
administrative tasks small. If I have the requirements to have up to 80
administrative tasks, what is your suggestion to handle this?

Thanks again and Best Regards
Godrid

Godrid:

There is not doubt that the Close Task function is an imperfect and clumsy
tool, however it's all we got to work with in the interface. Removing the
project from the published database certainly is an alternative. You can
also invent ways to automate the close task function by daring to flip bits
in the database programmatically.

With regard to the timesheet issue, I never promised you a rose garden.<g>

As far as administrative tasks, it really depends on what you mean by that.
You can always resort to using projects for these like we did in 2002 and
2003.
