pacemaker work with project

I'm studying on a different approach to a project. Is it possible to fix the
task budget, and enter resource cost per hour lets say, then calculate task
duration automatically?

for an example I have 100$ for a task to complete. and I pay 20$ per hour to
a worker. I want 5 hours as a task duration to be displayed on gannt chart.
In this project it is not necesseray that task is completed or not. What is
important that I have to finish the budget and calculate maximum work time.

any help is appriciated.

thanks in advance.

Hello Ertan,
MS Project doesn't work that way.
But if you calculated a work load of 5 days (person-days) for one task, MS
Project is able to calculate the Duration if you say that the resource is
working full time, or part time... on this task :
Duration x Number of resources = Work

Hope this helps,

Dear Gérard,

thanks for your reply.

I've been trying the way you mentioned; on the other hand I have another
issue:

one person completes task in 2 days and other does in 3 days. how can I
implement this detail?

Are the 2 persons working on the same task, or on 2 different tasks ?

You can assign each resource on the task using the Assign Resource dialog
box (2 small heads). Instead of entering the units number in the Units
column, enter the work.
NB : before this work assignment, clear the Effort Driven check box in the
Task Information dialog , Advanced tab.

yes they are working on the same task lets say

resource 1 completes the task in 3 days and resource 2 completes in 2 days,
whene there is a task 6 man-days, its duration should be 1 day.

however I want to group the workers class 1 and class 2 so that if I plan
to use 10 resources of class 1 and 10 of the other, the duration will be 0.1
day.

so do I have to create all resources instead of units or is there any trick
that could be used here? (different working times etc?)

If you don't need to manage each worker individually (assuming they have the
same skill...) you can create 2 generic resource such as "Class1" (Maxi
Units = 10 or more) and "Class2" (Maxi Units = 10 or more).
In the Gantt Chart, insert the Work column : Insert / Column / Work
In this Work column, enter the value 2d (2 days or 16h)
Check the Effort Driven check box in the Task Information dialog (Advanced
tab)
NB : Effort Driven means that Project will share the work among all the
assigned resources.
Assign Class1 with Units = 10
Assign Class2 with Units = 10

Note that the Duration is 0,1d

Thanks for your reply Gérard, I have one more question:

If the resources don't have the same skill, this approach doesn't work, as I
understand. What should I do then? Is there any field that I can enter
performance value of each resources?

kind regards,
ertan

Ertan,

With skill, I meant more competences such as "can program with Visual Basic"
or "Sign language" than efficiency.

MS Project Server can manage resources competences, but not their
efficiency.

Some other planning softwares allow to say that if an experimented worker
can do a task within 1 day, a newbie worker would need 1,4 days for ex. MS
Project doesn't do that.
