Pack and Go Wizard Error: "Publisher could not pack your publicat

I

Ian

Using Publisher 2002 (part of Office XP Small Business Edition). Office SP3
service pack and all other Office Updates have been applied.

I get the following error message (a dialogue box):

---Microsoft Publisher---
[Exclamation Mark] Publisher could not pack your publication. You may be
out of space on your hard disk. Delete any unnecessary files and then try
again.
[OK]

I get this message regardless of whether I try to save to a CD-RW disk
(using Roxio DirectCD) or to an empty folder on my hard disk. My hard disk
is definitely not full (I have 80 GB with only 25 GB in use).

The specific menu options I've selected are:
File -> Pack and Go -> Take to a commercial printing service...

[x] Embed truetype fonts
[x] Include linked graphics
[x] Create links for embedded graphics

When the error message appears, the underlying "Pack and Go" window shows:
Progress: 50% complete
Action: Compressing

This is after displaying "Copying" and "Embedding fonts and saving...".

I have checked Microsoft Support (support.microsoft.com) for relevant KB
articles and have found nothing.

Could someone please advise?

Thank you.

I have no specific answers for you, only general comments.

Have you tried cleaning the disc (deleting temp files...which can build
up to be an impressive blob) then defragging it. A fragmented drive can
sometimes appear to not have enough room. reboot afterwards.

are you letting PnG do its thing where it thinks it wants to or are you
directing it to a specific location? (I'd use specific location).

One common source of problems (not necessarily this one) is font
problems (like having too many fonts active). I know XP is supposed to
etc etc. But try to trim them down to a couple hundred...and make sure
you don't have duplicates activated (such as a TTF and T1 of the same
font--soemtimes this is deadly).
