Package for CD - 2007

I know there is a PowerPoint 2007 Viewer available for download. So why does
the "Package for CD" option in Powerpoint 2007 convert the slideshow into a
slideshow that can be played with "older" viewers of PowerPoint, instead of
leaving it with a PPSM or PPSX extension? The conversion is causing the loss
of some of my custom animation settings, which I would like to avoid.

There's no viewer for the new format, so in order to create a CD that'll
auto-run, PPT has to save backwards to a format that the existing 2003
viewer
can play.

Specifically, it's because the compatibility pack is needed in order for the
Viewer to be able to open PPTX files, and the compat pack won't run from CD.
