Package to CD in 2003

After packaging to CD ROM as a pps the CDROM does not Autorun when inserted
into the CD drive. It has to be manually started. How do I overcome this
problem so that my clients (techno muppets, like me) can just insert the CD
and expect it to play.
Thanks

Do you have your CD drive set to autorun? Is the autorun.inf file in the root
directory of the CD? Have you tested the CD on a couple of other systems?

Hi Sonia
The autorun.inf file is in the root directory of the CD. I have tried it on
other systems and it fails on all, so far. As a techno muppet (tm) how /
where do I set the cd drive to autorun?
Really appreciate your time. Thank you
Rodger

Well, let's back up. You say that you used Package for CD. Did you use Package
to Folder and modify any of the files at all before burning them to CD?

Try this. Open NotePad and then open the autorun.inf file on your CD. Copy and
paste the contents of the file here. I just want to be sure that we're talking
about the same thing.

Hi, Sonia
I saved the presentation as a pps file, I packaegd to CD, in a folder named
Company Profile and made no amendments thereafter. The CD works fine, but it
has to be started manually.
I have opened the autorun file and the contents are shown: [autorun]
open=pptview.exe /L "playlist.txt"
All files in the list are as follows: AUTORUN gdiplus.dll intldate.dll
MsA Company Prolfile v.1.05 play playlist pptview ppwintl.dll
pvreadme saext.dll unicows.dll
I am sorry this is taking so much of your time and I am most grateful for
your help.
Regards
Rodger

It sounds like you copied the folder to the CD, rather than copying only the
CONTENTS of the folder. There should be no folder on the CD.

I think you've "cracked it" (as we say in England). YES, I did copy the
FILE. I have now copied the CONTENTS of the file to cd and it works. Well,
nearly. It does not autorun first time, but after I run it manually for the
first time, it opens and runs automatically thereafter. Should it autorun
first time or is that too much to hope for? Anyway we have moved forward a
million miles since we embarked upon this tortuous journey and I a very
grateful to you.
