Packaging text and graphics for distribution

I have a large, complex Word document that has linked Visio objects, as well
as other linked bitmap graphics. I need to package these linked files along
with the text for distribution to another company who will maintain them.
Most page layout applications have the capability of packaging Text, Fonts &
Graphics so they can be referenced by other users in other locations.

This document is nearly 400 pages and used to be a Master Document with 30
subdocuments until I had so many problems with Word 2003 Master Document
altering the subdocuments every time I opened the Master, I finally gave up
and put all 30 subdocuments into a single combined document that is 12MB and
has numerous linked image files.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks

Happy to help, but what's the question?

The question is, how do I package the images & other linked Visio files so they can be opened, read and modified by the receiving location.? They are currently kept in a subfolder marked "Images," but Word cannot find them even when I place them on a networked drive and try to open them with another PC because the directory structure is not the same. Where is the "Package for Publication" functionality that In Design and other publishing apps have built-in?

Hi Wildlight,

Unfortunately, Word, while it would appear to make sense for it to be so, isn't really a 'page layout' software package but a text
reflow one. Run it with a different printer driver installed that has different minimal margins, for example and if you've crowded
the edges of pages your document may repaginate differently.

For the other company to maintain (assuming you include 'editing') the documents they will likely need to have the same applications
used for the embedded objects, such as the same version of Visio.

Are the linked images in the same folder as the document? If so, you may be able to zip the folder and all of its content as one
method to accomplish this, but Word can be a bit picky on maintaining file location 'memory' for templates and linked objects. What
are your needs when you refer to being able to be referenced by others?
