Page and sub page

Can anyone tell me, what's the difference between a page and a subpage. Why
would I bother using a subpage when I can use a page?

They are just another option for organization.

From the help:
By adding subpages, you can create groups of related pages. Each group will
have one primary page and as many subpages as you need. You can easily
select the group as a unit to simplify page tasks (for example, to copy or
move them, or send them in an e-mail message). Subpage titles can also help
you organize your information.

Exactly right. I use subpages as an organizational tool to indicate
that a (sub)page is related to a page. Really the only difference is
the visual effect along the right side which helps the eye more easily
pick out the groups.

Also, I suppose, it's easier to drag the group up and down if you wanted
to reorder manually.

AFAICS a wrong assumption.
If one drags a "leading" page of a group, only this page alone is moved,
the orphaned subpages become stand-alone pages.
For moving a group one has to mark all pages that shall be moved.
