somehow I messed up the page banner properties. That is,
if i type "microsoft" in the page banner of one page,
then every page banner in the website will
say "microsoft". I want the page banner to match the
title indicated in the navigation screen.

Right click it for Page Banner Properties and select Picture (if using a theme) or Text

Thanks, this put me on the right track. As it turned out
I had somehow deleted the banner - which I discovered
when I couldn't right-click on it as you said. Inserted
a new one...thanks for your help
